INTERNATIONAL MASTERCLASSES FOR CONDUCTORS

This year, the conducting masterclasses are scheduled to take place in Tallinn and Pärnu from July 6th to 17th. Concurrently, Pärnu will host masterclasses for instrumentalists and the Pärnu Music Festival is taking place from 10.-19. July 2024.
The orchestras conducted by the conducting masterclass participants are the Järvi Academy Sinfonietta, Pärnu City Orchestra, and Järvi Academy Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Conducting masterclass tutors: Paavo Järvi, Neeme Järvi, Kristjan Järvi and Leonid Grin

Active participant: 16 active participants will be selected, and their work plan will include:

  • At least 100 minutes of work with pianos and various orchestras of the Järvi Academy (July 6–17, 2024).
  • Conducting two concerts in Tallinn and Pärnu.

Participants will be selected by Paavo Järvi on the day before the concert. Sessions will be held at MUBA (Pärnu mnt 59, Tallinn) and Pärnu Concert Hall (Aida 4, Pärnu). Participants are allowed to film all sessions.

Student: Two students will be selected with a schedule including:

  • At least 50 minutes of work with pianos and various orchestras of the Järvi Academy (July 6–17, 2024).
  • Participation in concerts in Tallinn and Pärnu.

Generally, students do not conduct at the concerts, but exceptions have occurred.

Passive participant: Those who receive a negative answer can participate as passive applicants, with a schedule including:

  • One individual conducting lesson with Leonid Grin (with pianos).
  • Approximately 1 hour lecture (Maarit Kangron, Leonid Grin).

Observers: Guests are welcome to attend the masterclasses for a fee of €30 per day, payable in cash on the spot.

  • Arvo Pärt – Psalom
  • Arvo Pärt – L’abbé Agathon
  • Haydn – Symphony No. 94 in G-Major “Surprise”

  • Josef Strauß – Waltz Sphären-Klänge (Music of the Spheres), Op. 235
  • Frédéric Chopin – Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-minor, Op. 11
  • Antonín Dvořák – Symphony No. 7 in D-minor, Op. 70

Participation Fees:

  • Active participant: €2400
  • Student: €1200
  • Passive participant: €600
  • Observer: €30 per day

The registration deadline is May 10, 2024. Results will be announced by the end of May.

The deadline for payment of the participation fee is June 10, 2024. Late payment will result in a proposal for active participation to the next applicant.

Other Info:

Accommodation: Participation fee does not include accommodation. Due to high demand in Pärnu during the summer, please book well in advance.

Catering: The participation fee includes lunch and dinner in Pärnu. Further details will be provided in early June.

Festival Concert Tickets: Free entry to festival concerts for both active participants and students with pre-registration. The organizer does not guarantee access to EFO concerts for all applicants.
